Villa approach 1,000 point landmark

Aston Villa are just three points shy of reaching the landmark of 1,000 points in the Premier League.

The West Midlands side are one of just seven teams to have played in every season of the Premier League since its inception in 1992 and they have so far accrued 997 points courtesy of 262 wins and 211 draws.

With the help of Opta data we analyse when they might reach the 1,000 point mark and in doing so become the fifth side to achieve the feat.

First up for the Villans are Hull City at the KC Stadium who are in a relegation dogfight and are in desperate need of points.

Iain Dowie's men have only lost three of their last 13 league home games since September, however they have lost their last six games against Villa without finding the back of the net once. It is 21/20 that Villa reach their landmark in Hull.

If Martin O'Neill's men don't secure all three points against Hull then they will have double motivation to beat their Midlands rivals Birmingham in their next game.

Villa have won their last five games against Birmingham, scoring 12 goals and conceding just three in the process. Therefore the 7/4 about the landmark being reached in this derby could be a good bet.

An away trip to Man City follows their derby game against the Blues when a draw might be sufficient to reach the landmark (it is 9/1 that they do it at Eastlands) if they have been held to draws in their previous two.

Their final game of the season sees them host Blackburn at Villa Park, by which stage their fans will hope the 1,000 point milestone is club history. But if it is not you can get 4/1 about it being reached on the final day.
