Sweden crowned World Cup champions
Robert Karlsson and Henrik Stenson secured the Omega Mission Hills World Cup for Sweden this morning.
Honouring their pre-tournament favouritism, the Swedish pair played an excellent final round to secure their nation's second ever World Cup golf title.
The team were 7/2 in the betting to win the tournament and drifted to 4/1 after two rounds. Going into the final round they were four shots off the joint-leaders Spain and Australia but a round of 63, nine shots under par, saw them lift the John Jay Hopkins trophy.
The Spanish team of Miguel Angel Jimenez and Pablo Larrazabal could only manage a final round of 70 to leave them in second place. Richard Green and Brendan Jones of Australia had been 28/1 to win before the start and disappointed their backers on the final day ending up sharing third place with Japan having carded a four-over-par 76.
