Labour leadership - Beginning of a new era?

Bookmakers were celebrating following the victory of the younger Miliband after punters staked much bigger bets on older brother David.

"Over half a million pounds was riding on the outcome of the Labour leadership race and we were delighted to see Ed win as the largest bet we took for him was of £600 and he was not really given a genuine chance against his brother until the final days of voting. Punters should have remembered that David Cameron, Nick Clegg and Harriet Harman all beat the original favourites in theory own leadership and deputy leadership contests, but we took a string of bets of up to £2500 a time for David to win," said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.

Following Ed's victory Hill's have LENGTHENED Labour's odds of winning the next General Election from 15/8 to 2/1 and SHORTENED the Conservatives from 7/4 to 6/4. "We think the Conservatives will be quite happy with this outcome and as Ed has yet to prove himself as a leader he has it all to do to convince voters that he will make a better Prime Minister than David Cameron."
