Tory support goes West in Oldham East as Lib Dems backed

The biggest bet struck so far on next week's Oldham East & Saddleworth by-election has been staked on the Lib-Dems to win it with William Hill, who took the £500 wager at odds of 4/1 from a Nottinghamshire-based client.

And with plenty of support for the Lib Dems to win, Hills have now cut their odds from 4/1 to 7/2, with Labour the odds-on favourites, and the Conservatives barely attracting a bet, and friendless in the market at 14/1.

'This is a tricky race to call, with some political observers believing that the Tories are leaving it to their coalition partners and therefore virtual non-runners, while the Labour vote could be seen as an indication of how well their supporters believe Ed Miliband is faring as leader, and the Lib Dems may suffer because of the recent problems they and Vince Cable have encountered' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.
