Sausage Fest Predicted For Protected Foods
With the Cumberland sausage following hot on the heels of the Cornish pasty, in gaining protected status, bookmakers, William Hill, have slashed the price of the Lincolnshire sausage to follow suit. It is now the Even money favourite, ahead of 6/4 Red Leicester, 3/1 Lancashire Hot Pot and 7/1 Bury Black Pudding.
"The Cumberland sausage was very quick to follow the Cornish pasty into the annuls of food history and the odds suggest that it may be another sausage that comes next," said Hill's spokesman Joe Crilly.
Next Food To Gain PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) Status: 1/1 Lincolnshire Pork Sausage; 6/4 Red Leicester Cheese; 3/1 Lancashire Hot Pot; 7/1 Bury Black Pudding; 8/1 Scottish Wild Salmon; 10/1 Bakewell Pudding
(Must be confirmed by 31st December 2011, by the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs. Singles only, only these selections count)
