Big Bets Across The Board For BBC SPOTY
Mark Cavendish is the red-hot favourite to win Thursday evening's Sports Personality of the Year with William Hill making him 1/3 to scoop the coveted prize. Open winner Darren Clarke is the 9/2 second favourite with US Open winner, Rory McIlroy, rounding off the top three at 12/1. Cavendish is Hill's biggest loser with a number of five figure bets of up to £7.5k staked on him. The biggest bet so far this year, however, was £12,000 staked by a punter in the North East on Rory McIlroy just after he won the US Open. Bets of up to £1.5k have also been staked on Darren Clarke to win the award.
"The Sports Personality of the Year looks like it is just a one horse (or bike) race as we think that despite a fantastic year for British golf that loyalties may be divided," said Hill's spokesman Joe Crilly.
