Massive Gamble Precedes Capaldi's Role As 'The Doctor'

Peter Capaldi was revealed as the new Doctor Who, coming off the back of a sizeable week long gamble at William Hill.

On Friday 26th July, Peter Capaldi was 40/1 for the gig however by the time betting was suspended on Friday 2nd he was odds on at 5/6.

"Everyone has tried their best to keep it quiet although it looks as though someone may have let the secret slip within the last week or so," said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly. "The gamble was not solely on Capaldi however and there were many other contenders for the crown.

55 year old Peter Capaldi was inaugurated as the new Time Lord and William Hill are now looking even further into the future by offering 6/1 that the Scotsman is the final actor to ever play the Doctor.

There was a lot of talk before the reveal that the 12th Doctor could easily be a female, however that never transpired and it is now 10/1 that the 13th iteration of the Time Lord is an actress.

"There is a rumour that Peter Capaldi could be the last Doctor but with the show being such a moneyspinner, there is more than a slim chance of at least one more regeneration after Capaldi and next time, it could be a female," said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

Peter Capaldi is a good 25 years older than the man he is replacing, Matt Smith and it is 5/1 that the 13th Doctor is over the age of 50 also.
