Sound of silence for Christmas Number One
John Cage’s 4’33’’ is a 12/1 shot with William Hill to get to Christmas number 1.
The “song” is a three part symphony in which no notes are played and has got almost 30,000 fans on facebook and could be set to usurp the 1/3 X-Factor for another year.
Another act who could be set to defeat the X-Factor is former contestant Gamu Nhengu, who is priced at 20/1.
Take That are the 8/1 second favourites and George Michael is 33/1 to celebrate his freedom by hitting the top spot at Christmas.
The evergreen Cliff Richard turned 70 this year and could celebrate by scoring a festive number 1. Hills are offering odds of 70/1 that he does so.
“Despite the popularity of X-Factor a lot of people dislike the fact that the Christmas Number 1 has become so predictable. Last year was a refreshing change and it could well be that 4’33’’ could be the perfect way to ‘silence’ Simon Cowell,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.
