Age

• Only one seven-year-old has won the race since 1950. Horses aged between 8 and 11 have the best record.
• Eight-year-olds have won four of the last 10 renewals

Weight

• Eight of the last 10 winners carried less than 11 stone
• Only 29% of winners since 1950 have carried 11 stone or more

Price

• Favourites don’t have a particularly good record in the race; only five have won since 2000.
• Don’t be put off by a big price. Five of the last 10 winners have been sent off 25/1 or bigger. That number increases to eight if you go back to 2000.
• There can be huge shocks too. Mon Mome returned to the winners’ enclosure as a 100/1 winner in 2009, while in 2013 Auroras Encore was successful at 66/1. 2022’s winner, Noble Yeats, was a 50/1 shot.
