Arthur Fery Sails Into SPOTY Contention
British tennis player Arthur Fery has sailed into contention for the BBC Sport Personality of the Year Award, according to William Hill.
The tennis sensation has been slashed from 50/1 to 6/1 to win the award following his Wimbledon quarter-final victory over ninth send Flavio Cobolli, seeing him join Jude Bellingham in third place behind Harry Kane and Rory McIlroy.
The leading bookmaker will be bracing themselves for a big payout should he go all the way, with two customers set to bank over £4,000 each after betting on the Brit at 400/1 odds to lift the title at SW19.
Fery is 9/2 to defeat French Open champion Alexander Zverev in the semis, and 16/1 to win the tournament. If he makes it past the German, he’ll have to face either World No.1 Jannik Sinner or seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic in the final.
BBC Sports Personality of the Year:
- Harry Kane – 6 /4
- Rory McIlroy – 5/1
- Jude Bellingham – 6/1
- Arthur Fery – 6/1
- Matt Weston – 9/1
- BAR – 14/1
Wimbledon – Gentleman’s Singles:
- Jannik Sinner – 1/2
- Alexander Zverev – 3/1
- Novak Djokovic – 13/2
- Arthur Fery – 16/1
Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “Arthur Fery’s incredible Wimbledon run has caught the attention of the nation and as such he is rising through the ranks in our BBC Sports Personality of the Year market.
“Fery wasn’t even in our market just a week ago and, since being installed at 50/1, he has now been slashed to 6/1 and sits third in the betting alongside England’s Jude Bellingham.
“Some of our savvy customers latched on before he really made a name for himself and they could be in for thousands of pounds, with bets laid at 500/1 and 400/1 for him to go all the way at Wimbledon prior to his victory in the second round, after which his price tumbled.”
