We chat with Dean Winstanley ahead of the UK Open
We caught up with our old friend Dean Winstanley as he prepares for the UK Open Championship which takes place in Minehead from 7th to 9th March.
How have your preparations been going ahead of the UK Open?
I've been preparing by practising hard in the Winstanley Lodge (A fitted studio in Dean's garden apparently, or a shed as most people would call it).
Who do you practice with?
I play against my wife, Lorraine, and NO1 the computer and I'm averaging well over 100 per three darts so my form is very good going into Minehead (We didn't ask about his finishing!)
What do you think about the PDC moving this tournament from the Reebok in Bolton to Minehead?
I am actually quite please that the tournament has moved to Minehead as I haven't qualified for the previous four tournaments that the PDC has promoted in that venue so I'm keen to play there.
What do you make of the draw? Do you know much about your three potential third round opponents?
I know of Josh Payne and Andy Boulton. They are quality players but I am playing well at the moment so I am only worrying about ME. If I play well I feel I will win.
Are there any unfamiliar names we should be keeping an eye out for?
Michael Smith recently got to a final so he is in good form and young Keegan Brown has taken some massive scalps, so watch him.
What's your tip for the tournament?
My only tip is me. I am playing well and looking to put last year's disappointments behind me and start to show what I can do.
Well, thanks Dean and the best of luck for the tournament.
