Bundesliga Opta Facts - 12-14 December

Augsburg v Bayern Munich

  • Augsburg's 1-0 victory on 5th April this year was their first competitive victory over Bayern in almost 53 years - the previous 13 meetings had all ended in defeat.
  • FCA are enjoying their best start to a Bundesliga season in their club history (24 points) and sit third in the top flight for the first time.
  • Markus Weinzierl's side have won their last four Bundesliga games, as well as their last five home matches in the top flight - both runs are new club records for Augsburg.
  • Bayern have lost just one of their last 42 away games in the Bundesliga (W34 D7) - that sole away defeat since April 2012 came against their Bavarian rivals Augsburg.
  • Augsburg (53.0% of challenges won) and Bayern (52.8%) are the best tackling sides in the league.
  • With 31 points each, FCB and FCA both sit at the top of a table representing only the second half of matches. The two clubs have conceded the fewest Bundesliga goals in the last 30 minutes of games (1 each).
  • Markus Feulner won the German Youth Championship as captain of Bayern's most-senior youth team in 2001. His teammates included Philipp Lahm. He also celebrated a league and cup double with FCB in 2003.
  • Markus Weinzierl was a player in Bayern's reserves between 1995 and 1999 - he was occasionally part of the first-team squad, but never made a competitive appearance.
  • Former Bayern player Stefan Reuter (league titles in 1989 and 1990) won the Champions League (1997 with BVB) and EURO 1996 together with Matthias Sammer during his playing days. Manager Sammer and player Reuter won the Bundesliga title at Dortmund in 2002.
  • Robert Lewandowski, who netted his first Bundesliga hat-trick against FCA, has scored seven goals in six Bundesliga matches against Augsburg.
  • However, the Polish striker has wasted the most clear-cut chances in the top flight this season (10 of 14).
  • Pep Guardiola's first Bundesliga defeat, and his only one away from home in the German top flight, came against FC Augsburg.

SV Werder Bremen v Hannover 96

  • Bremen have won their last three home games against Hannover. In fact, 96 have won just one of 26 Bundesliga games in the Weserstadion - a 2-1 victory in March 2003, thanks to a Fredi Bobic brace.
  • Werder have also won each of the last three northern derbies - SVW haven't won their last three matches against any other Bundesliga club.
  • Bremen have picked 13 points from their opening 14 games. Only once have they had a worse record than this - in the 1974/75 season, when they had just 11 points at this stage (assuming three points per win).
  • Hannover have lost their last three games, conceding 10 goals in the process. The Lower Saxony club recorded three straight wins without letting in a goal before heading into the international break.
  • 96 have conceded the most goals over the last three matchdays (10). They had let in just 11 goals in the previous 11 matchdays combined.
  • Werder have won their last two home games without conceding. The last time they had a run like that within one season was in April 2010.
  • Bremen have conceded the most goals in the league (31, the same as Stuttgart) and have let in nine goals in the final 15 minutes of games - also a league high.
  • Viktor Skripnik and Christian Schulz won the double together at Werder in 2004. The Ukrainian then left the club, while Schulz stayed until 2007 and also played alongside Torsten Frings.
  • Skripnik has already faced Hannover 96 this season: In a meeting between the two clubs' reserves, his Bremen side won 3-0 at home.
  • Werder assistant coach Torsten Frings has lost just one of his 16 Bundesliga games against Hannover (4-1 away in September 2010). On top of that, he hasn't scored more goals against any other club than he did against 96 (4).
  • Hannover's Joselu has now scored in each of the last two matchdays, having previously gone 721 minutes without a goal.

Freiburg v Hamburger SV

  • Hamburg have to make the longest journey in the Bundesliga this season (637 km as the crow flies), but they have enjoyed trips to Freiburg of late. HSV have picked up seven points from their last three Bundesliga games away at SCF and have lost just one of their last seven there (W2 D4).
  • Freiburg have won one in five Bundesliga games against HSV (the same as against Bayern) - their win percentage is only lower against Dortmund (13%) and Hertha BSC (10%).
  • The home team has failed to win in any of the last seven Bundesliga meetings between these two sides. The visitors have taken all three points on five occasions (Freiburg three times, Hamburg twice), while two games have ended in draws.
  • The worst away team in the league (HSV, 4 points) face the third-worst home team (SCF, 6 points). Hamburg have lost their last three away games, while Freiburg have been beaten in two of their last three home matches (W1).
  • SCF have scored eight goals from set pieces (4 penalties) - proportionally, a league high (53%). HSV, on the other hand, have scored the fewest goals from dead balls (3, the same as Köln and BVB) and are the only team yet to score from a free kick.
  • There have been just 1.9 goals per HSV game on average this season, the lowest amount in Bundesliga history.
  • SCF have let in four goals in the final 10 minutes of games, costing them victory each time. Freiburg's tally of eight points dropped in the final 10 minutes is a league high, much like their overall tally of 10 points squandered from winning positions.
  • Hamburg have scored five goals in their last three games, which is more than in their first 11 matches of the season combined (4). Nevertheless, their tally of nine goals after 14 games is the club's worst return in their 52-year Bundesliga history.
  • The game against HSV will be Christian Streich's 100th as a Bundesliga manager. With a points-per-game average of 1.28, he is the best coach in Freiburg's Bundesliga history. Also, Jonathan Schmid could play his 100th match in the German top flight.
  • Freiburg's Dani Schahin (2006-09) and Karim Guede (2005-06), as well as Hamburg's Mohamed Gouaida (2011-14) all used to be under contract at their upcoming opponents, but none of them ever featured for the first team.

Hertha Berlin v Borussia Dortmund

  • The away side has won in each of the last four meetings between the two clubs. BVB recorded their highest ever win in Berlin in the most recent encounter in May 2014 (4-0).
  • Berlin last beat Dortmund at home in September 2007 (3-2). Since then, there have been three BVB wins, one draw and just one Hertha goal.
  • This is a meeting between two of the three sides that have suffered the most defeats in the Bundesliga this season (8 each, the same as Stuttgart).
  • Hertha have lost four of their last five Bundesliga games (they won 2-1 away to Köln) and are level on points with Dortmund, just one point clear of a direct relegation spot.
  • Luhukay's side have lost their last two Bundesliga home games without scoring (1-0 against Bayern, 2-0 against Hannover) and have been waiting 185 minutes for a goal in the Olympiastadion.
  • Dortmund have collected just one point from their last six Bundesliga away games. The last time they had to wait as long for a win on the road within one season was at the end of 2007/08 (before the Klopp era) - also a run of six matches.
  • BVB have conceded exactly two goals in each of their seven Bundesliga away fixtures so far in this campaign. The last time they kept a top-flight clean sheet on the road was on matchday 34 last season, in a 4-0 win away to upcoming opponents Hertha BSC.
  • Up until the end of matchday 12, Dortmund committed just 11 fouls per game. Matchdays 13 (22 fouls) and 14 (20 fouls) saw them set season highs.
  • Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been involved in seven of his side's last 10 Bundesliga goals (4 goals + 3 assists). He's the best at BVB in the league this season in terms of shots (44) and shot assists (23).
  • Ilkay Gündogan was the standout player in the 1-0 win over Hoffenheim on matchday 14. He scored the game's only goal, had the best pass accuracy for BVB by far (85.7%) and was involved in six of his side's shots (4 taken himself, 2 assisted).
  • Adrian Ramos was involved in 21 of Hertha's 40 league goals in 2013/14 (16 goals + 5 assists). The Colombian has just two goals and two assists to his name for Dortmund in the Bundesliga this season (in 12 appearances).

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim v Eintracht Frankfurt

  • There have been 10 Bundesliga meetings between the sides, with Hoffenheim winning on five occasions (D3 L2).
  • Frankfurt have won their last three games and are the second-best team in the league in that timeframe with nine points and a +7 goal difference (Schalke have 9 points and +8 GD).
  • Hoffenheim have lost four of their last five Bundesliga games, conceding a total of 15 goals in that timeframe (an average of 3 per game).
  • With 27 goals to their name, Eintracht have the third-best attack in the league - only Bayern (33) and Wolfsburg (28) have scored more often. However, only Stuttgart and Bremen (both 31) have conceded more goals than Frankfurt (26).
  • There has been an average of 3.8 goals per Bundesliga game involving Frankfurt this season (53 in total), a league high. Hoffenheim's matches provided the most goals in 2013/14 (4.2 per game, 142 in total).
  • Hoffenheim have lost just one of their last 11 Bundesliga home games, winning seven (3 draws). Their only defeat in that timeframe came on matchday 11 this season, when they were beaten 4-3 by Köln.
  • TSG are on the brink of letting in their 150th goal at home in the Bundesliga. Their current record is 149 goals conceded in 109 home games. They are just three away from shipping their 350th goal in the top flight in total (currently 347 conceded in 218 games).
  • With 10 goals to his name, Alex Meier is the top scorer in the Bundesliga this season. Only one Frankfurt player has had more goals after 14 matchdays: Theofanis Gekas netted 12 times in the opening 14 games of the 2010/11 season.
  • Meier has scored in each of his last three games - he has never netted in four consecutive Bundesliga appearances before.
  • Pirmin Schwegler joined Hoffenheim from Frankfurt this summer. He wore the captain's armband at Eintracht for a period and made 101 Bundesliga appearances for them in five years (6 goals). He was there for the club's relegation in 2011, as well as their immediate promotion.
  • Alexander Rosen, director of football at TSG, made a total of four Bundesliga appearances for Frankfurt between 1999 and 2000.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen v Borussia Mönchengladbach

  • Leverkusen have lost just two of their last 34 Bundesliga games against Mönchengladbach (W17 D15) - Bayer 04 are unbeaten in the last four encounters (2 draws, followed most recently by back-to-back wins).
  • Against no other club have Leverkusen scored as many Bundesliga goals as they have against Gladbach (120).
  • Bayer 04 have recorded 18 home wins against Borussia - they've only secured as many against Kaiserslautern and Schalke.
  • Bayer 04 have scored in each of their last 18 Bundesliga meetings with the Foals - the last time they failed to find the back of the net against them was on 3rd April 2004 (0-0 draw in Gladbach).
  • Leverkusen are one of four sides unbeaten at home in the Bundesliga this season (W4 D3). Their last top-flight defeat on home soil was a 3-2 loss to Hoffenheim on 23rd March.
  • Borussia remained unbeaten in their first nine competitive away games in 2014/15 (W6 D3), but they have failed to pick up a win in their last three competitive fixtures on the road (D1 L2).
  • Of all the Bundesliga teams, Leverkusen and Gladbach have played the most competitive matches in 2014/15 (number 25 for both of them on Sunday).
  • If Borussia's run from their last seven Bundesliga games continues, Favre's side will go without a goal in Leverkusen - Gladbach have only scored in every other game recently (their last two away games have ended in 1-0 defeats to Dortmund and Wolfsburg).
  • Gladbach have dropped outside the top five in the table for the first time since matchday 5.
  • Karim Bellarabi (56) and Hakan Calhanoglu (53) are the only players to have taken more than 50 shots in the league.
  • Roberto Hilbert is unbeaten in the Bundesliga against the Foals. He has recorded seven wins and one draw in eight top-flight encounters (6 with VfB Stuttgart, 2 with Bayer Leverkusen).
  • Lucien Favre has a positive record against Bayer 04 as a Bundesliga coach - he has recorded four wins, three draws and three defeats in 10 meetings with the club.

1. FSV Mainz 05 v VfB Stuttgart

  • Mainz have won three of their last four Bundesliga games against VfB (1 draw). Stuttgart's last win was a 4-1 home victory in April 2012.
  • The 05ers have won each of their last four Bundesliga home games against Stuttgart and are unbeaten in their last six games against VfB on home soil (W4 D2).
  • Stuttgart's last triumph in Mainz was a 2-1 win in September 2005 - over nine years ago.
  • Mainz are the only Bundesliga side without a win in their last six games (D2 L4). Their only victory in the last 10 matchdays was their 2-1 win against Augsburg in mid-October (D5 L4).
  • Stuttgart are the worst home team in the league (4 points from 7 games). They are seventh in the away table (8 points from 7 games). VfB have thus picked up twice as many points on the road as they have on home soil.
  • Stuttgart have both the league's best away attack (14 goals scored) and worst home attack (4, the same as Köln).
  • For the fourth time this season, Stuttgart find themselves in 18th. VfB have only been bottom this far into the campaign once before: after matchdays 15 and 16 in 2000/01. They finished that campaign in 15th.
  • Having conceded 31 goals, VfB have the leakiest defence in the league together with Bremen. The only time Stuttgart have let in more goals after 14 games was in 1974/75 (32), a season that ended in relegation.
  • Mainz have conceded the most headed goals in the league (8), followed closely by Stuttgart (7).
  • Stuttgart (92) and Mainz (88) have allowed the most shots on target in the league.
  • Shinji Okazaki has scored eight goals in his 13 games this season - he only netted 10 goals in his entire two and a half years at VfB Stuttgart (January 2011 to summer 2013), never scoring more than seven in a single campaign.
  • Nikolce Noveski is set for his 250th Bundesliga game for Mainz. He is FSV's record appearance holder by far (Elkin Soto is 2nd with 147 appearances).

FC Schalke 04 v 1. FC Köln

  • Köln have barely taken anything off Schalke in recent years. They have lost six of their last seven meetings with the Royal Blues - their only victory in that timeframe was a 2-1 home win in May 2011.
  • The Billy Goats are without a win away at Schalke in their last 12 BL trips there (D3 L9) - Köln's last victory in Gelsenkirchen was over 22 years ago on 28th August 1993 (2-1).
  • In total, Köln have won 32 of the 76 Bundesliga meetings between the two sides, with Schalke victorious on only 26 occasions (18 draws) - the Rhineland club have only recorded more top-flight wins against VfB Stuttgart (34) and Werder Bremen (33).
  • Schalke have won their last three Bundesliga games, scoring at least three goals each time (11 in total). The last time S04 won four top-flight matches in a row was at the start of the year.
  • Köln, on the other hand, have lost their last three league games. The last time they suffered more than three straight Bundesliga defeats was in April 2009 (4 on the trot).
  • Peter Stöger's side have conceded at least two goals in each of their last four Bundesliga games (11 in total). The last six goals that Köln have let in have come in the second half, while three of the last four have been scored in the final three minutes of games.
  • The last eight Köln goals have come from either Ujah, Olkowski or Lehmann. The latter now returns to action following suspension. Ujah is the Billy Goats' top scorer with five league goals this season.
  • While Köln have a trio, Schalke have a deadly duo - Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar have had a hand in 19 of S04's 25 BL goals between them in 2014/15 (76%).
  • After netting his first Bundesliga hat-trick (in the 4-0 win in Stuttgart), Choupo-Moting has been involved in the most goals in the league (8 goals + 4 assists). The Cameroon international has had a hand in four of Schalke's last five Bundesliga goals (3 goals + 1 assist).
  • Current Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt began his BL career as a Köln player. He made 130 Bundesliga appearances for the Billy Goats between 1990 and 1995, scoring 13 goals from midfield.

VfL Wolfsburg v SC Paderborn 07

  • Wolfsburg and Paderborn have met just once before: SCP hosted the Wolves in the 2005/06 DFB Cup in front of around 5,000 spectators in the Hermann-Löns-Stadion. Mike Hanke and Diego Klimowicz fired the visiting Bundesliga side to a 2-0 win.
  • After drawing their first home game of the season against Frankfurt, the Wolves have gone on to win their other six. The last time they had a run like that was between September 2008 and August 2009 when they won 16 home matches in a row.
  • Andre Breitenreiter had led his Paderborn side to a stunning first place after four matchdays, but if you look at a table representing only the last four matchdays, SCP are last.
  • After securing a comfortable 3-0 win in Hamburg in their first Bundesliga away game, Paderborn have gone on to lose four of their last five matches on the road (D1).
  • Wolfsburg haven't conceded a single goal in their last four home games. The only other time they have managed that in the Bundesliga was in their debut campaign in 1997/98. SCP haven't scored in 273 Bundesliga minutes away from home.
  • Wolfsburg's tally of eight goals in the opening 15 minutes of matches is a league high. SCP are the only side to have already conceded seven goals in that timeframe.
  • Paderborn's Stefan Kutschke was at Wolfsburg last season (8 Bundesliga appearances, 1 goal), while his current teammate Mahir Saglik won the Bundesliga with the Wolves in 2008/09 (8 Bundesliga games, 1 goal).
  • Florian Hartherz played in VfL's youth setup and also made one appearance for their reserves. Jens Wemmer also wore Wolfsburg colours (between 2005 and 2008), but only featured in the second team.
  • Kevin De Bruyne is the best assist provider in the league having set up nine goals. The 23-year-old has thus already equalled his personal best tally from the 2012/13 season at Werder Bremen (33 games). He scored a goal himself on the last matchday.
  • Dieter Hecking moved from relegated Bundesliga side VfB Leipzig to Regionalliga outfit TuS Paderborn-Neuhaus in 1994. In 2007, Hecking was named in Paderborn's ‘XI of the Century' by readers of the "Westfalen-Blatt" newspaper.
