Carlisle v Port Vale

These sides have met once before in the League Cup, with Port Vale winning 3-2 over two legs in the second round in September 1996.

Carlisle have lost their last three meetings with the Valiants in all competitions, last facing them in the Football League Trophy last season (0-1).

Port Vale have made it past the first round of the League Cup in each of the last two season, falling at the second round each time.

The Cumbrians reached the third round last season, eventually losing out on penalties to Liverpool.

Rotherham v Morecambe

Rotherham have won two and lost just one of their last four meetings with Morecambe. These games have seen a total of 17 goals.

Morecambe won the last meeting between these sides - 2-1 in April 2013. This is their first meeting in the League Cup.

The Millers - who reached the final of the first ever League Cup - have won their last three first round ties, all of them coming at home.

Morecambe have fallen at the first hurdle of the League Cup in the last two seasons, losing both games 0-1.

Accrington v Bradford

Stanley have scored in each of their last 10 meetings with Bradford (W3 D5 L2).

Bradford won the last meeting between the sides - 2-1 in December 2012. This is their first meeting in the League Cup.

Accrington have only progressed past the first round of the League Cup once in the last five seasons, beating Middlesbrough 2-1 in August 2013.

The Bantams have been knocked out in the first round in two of the last three seasons. The season before that, they reached the final, losing 0-5 to Swansea at Wembley.

Rochdale v Chesterfield

Rochdale have won just two of their last 12 meetings with Chesterfield in all competitions (D6 L4), though these have come in the last four matches between the sides.

These sides have met twice before in the League Cup, both times in the first round. Chesterfield won 4-2 on aggregate over two legs in August 1999, while Rochdale won 3-2 in August 2011.

Rochdale - who reached the final in 1962 - have progressed past the first round in just one of the last four seasons, though it was in last season's competition.

Chesterfield have lost each of their last nine first round games in the League Cup. The last time they made it past the first round was in 2006-07, reaching the fourth round.

Mansfield v Blackburn

Mansfield have won just one of their six previous meetings with Blackburn (D3 L2).

This will be the first meeting between these sides since April 1980, with Rovers winning 1-0 in Mansfield in the old Division Three.

The Stags have been eliminated from the first round in each of their last four League Cup participations.

Blackburn - winners in 2002 - have been knocked out at the first hurdle in each of their last four seasons (second round in 2012/13, first round in the last three seasons).

Barnsley v Northampton

This will be the first meeting between these sides in the League Cup. Their last game against each other was in the FA Cup first round in November 2004 - Northampton winning 1-0 at Sixfields.

Indeed, the Cobblers have won their last three meetings with Barnsley in all competitions, keeping a clean sheet in two of those.

Northampton have only been knocked out in the first round in two of their last nine seasons (vs Southampton in 2009/10 and MK Dons in 2013/14).

Barnsley have kept just one clean sheet in their last 12 League Cup games, shipping 27 goals in total.

Cambridge v Sheffield Wednesday

The last meetings between these sides were in the League Cup second round in September 1998 - Cambridge winning 2-1 on aggregate.

After winning eight of their first 11 meetings with the U's in all competitions (D2 L1), the Owls have won just one of the last four (D1 L2).

Cambridge have lost each of their last four first round League Cup matches, dating back to August 2003.

The Owls - winners in 1991 and runners-up in 1993 - reached the quarter-finals last season, their best run in the competition since reaching the semi-finals in 2002.

Derby v Grimsby

The last meeting between these sides was in this competition in August 2005 - Grimsby winning 1-0 at Pride Park.

Indeed, Grimsby have won their last two meetings with Derby in all competitions, this after a winless run of 13 games against the Rams (D4 L9).

Derby lost to fourth-tier opposition at this stage of the competition last season, losing 1-2 at Portsmouth.

This is Grimsby's first appearance in the League Cup since 2009-10, where they lost 0-4 at Tranmere in the first round.

Oldham v Wigan

Both league meetings between these sides last season ended as draws - this is their first ever meeting in the League Cup.

Wigan are unbeaten in their last eight against Oldham in all competitions (W5 D3).

Oldham have fallen at the first round of the League Cup in each of the last seven seasons, with the last four defeats coming against Championship sides.

Wigan - finalists in 2006 - have been knocked out in the first round in each of the last two seasons.

Scunthorpe v Notts County

The Iron are winless in their last eight games against Notts County in all competitions (D3 L5).

Notts County have won all three of their League Cup games against Scunthorpe - 2-0 in the second round in 1976, and both legs (1-0 and 3-0) in the first round in 1978.

Three of Scunthorpe's last four first round ties in the League Cup have gone to penalties, with the Iron winning one and losing two.

The Magpies' last nine League Cup ties have produced 41 goals (F17 A24).

Doncaster v Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest have won all three games against Doncaster in the League Cup, including an 8-0 win in the first round first leg in August 1997.

Indeed, that result was Forest's biggest ever win and Doncaster's biggest ever defeat in the competition.

Doncaster have progressed past the first round of the League Cup in each of the last five seasons.

Forest - four time winners of the competition - have found the net in each of their last 13 games in the League Cup.

Burton v Bury

Burton have won just one of their 11 previous meetings with Bury in all competitions (D4 L6).

This will be the first League Cup meeting between these sides - Bury were unbeaten against Burton in league competition last season (W1 D1).

Since losing their first three games in the competition, the Brewers have lost just three of their last 10 in the League Cup (W5 D2), and never in the first round in that run.

The Shakers have conceded at least once in their last 13 League Cup games, shipping 30 goals in total. However, the last eight ties have also seen them score.

Fleetwood v Leeds

This will be the first ever competitive meeting between these sides.

Leeds have been eliminated from the League Cup by lower ranked sides in each of the last two seasons - Bradford in 2014/15 and Doncaster last season.

The Cod Army have lost all four of their League Cup first round ties, three of them by a 1-0 scoreline.

The Whites have reached the final of the League Cup twice - beating Arsenal in 1968 but losing to Aston Villa in 1996.

Sheffield United v Crewe

The home side won both league meetings between these sides last season, with the Blades triumphing 3-2 at Bramall Lane.

This will be the first meeting between the sides in the League Cup. The last cup meeting between them was in the 2014-15 FA Cup - Crewe were eliminated 0-2 at Bramall Lane in a first round replay.

Sheffield United reached the semi-finals of the League Cup in 2014-15, losing out 2-3 on aggregate to Tottenham Hotspur.

Crewe have been knocked out of the League Cup in the first round in two of the last three seasons.

Shrewsbury v Huddersfield

Shrewsbury progressed on the only previous occasions they've faced Huddersfield in the League Cup, winning 4-3 on aggregate in the 1985-86 second round.

The Terriers have lost just one of their last eight meetings with Shrewsbury in all competitions (W3 D4), though this will be their first meeting since April 1995.

Shrewsbury's last 35 games in the League Cup have been against sides from a higher division (W11 D5 L19).

Huddersfield have conceded in each of their last 10 League Cup games, shipping 25 goals in total.

Preston v Hartlepool

Preston have won their last four meetings with Hartlepool in all competitions, scoring eight and conceding none - their last meeting was in January 2013.

This will be the first League Cup meeting between these sides. Pools lost their last visit to Deepdale 0-5 in September 2012.

North End have progressed past the first round in each of the last eight seasons, last falling against Morecambe back in August 2007.

Hartlepool's last four first round matches have been away from home (W1 L3). They kept a clean sheet in the victory, but shipped 14 goals across the three defeats.

Blackpool v Bolton

This will be the first ever meeting between these sides in the League Cup - the last two games between them both ended 1-1.

Bolton haven't won at Bloomfield Road since December 1977, drawing seven and losing five in all competitions since then.

Blackpool have been eliminated from the first round of the League Cup in each of the last five seasons, failing to score on four occasions.

The Trotters - runners up in 1995 and 2004 - were eliminated by Burton in the first round last season, their first elimination at that stage since the 2000/01 season.

Round 1 - Southern Section

 

Peterborough v AFC Wimbledon

This will be the first meeting between the two sides in any competition.

The Posh have progressed from Round 1 of the League Cup in six of the last seven seasons.

The Dons have never gone beyond Round 1 since their first appearance in the competition in 2011/12, losing all five games in the League Cup.

Peterborough's last four League Cup games at home have contained 17 goals, with 13 scored by themselves (4.25 per game).

Bristol Rovers v Cardiff

These two sides last met in the League Cup in the second round in 2009/10, with the Bluebirds winning 3-1 at home.

Bristol Rovers have lost six of their last seven games in the League Cup, drawing the other against Watford which they won on penalties.

Since reaching the final in 2012, Cardiff City have not gone beyond the third round of this competition.

This will be the first time the Gas have hosted Cardiff in any competition since October 1999, where they drew 1-1 in the third tier.

Coventry v Portsmouth

This will be the first meeting in the League Cup between Coventry and Portsmouth since September 1968, in which the Sky Blues won 2-0 in Round 2.

Coventry have exited the competition at the first round stage in each of the last three seasons.

Pompey have failed to score in their last three away games in the League Cup.

However, Portsmouth have won their last two Round 1 ties against sides ranked higher up the pyramid than them (1-0 v Peterborough in 2014/15 and 2-1 v Derby last season).

Luton v Aston Villa

Luton and Aston Villa last met in the League Cup in the second round in 2002/03 - Dion Dublin scored twice in a 3-0 win for the Villans.

Aston Villa's last appearance in the first round of the League Cup was in August 1972, beating Hereford United 4-1.

The Hatters have won three of their last four League Cup ties against second tier sides.

Both teams have scored in each of Villa's last six away games in this competition.

Brighton v Colchester

Brighton have progressed both of their previous League Cup ties against Colchester United, beating them in Round 1 in 1967/68 and 1992/93.

The Seagulls have won four of their last five ties against sides from lower leagues in the League Cup but did fall in Round 2 last season to Walsall.

Colchester are winless in their last six League Cup games, losing five inside 90 minutes and the other on penalties to Wycombe in August 2011.

The U's have shipped 12 goals in their last four away matches in this competition's (three per game on average).

Cheltenham v Charlton

Cheltenham have progressed from the first round on just five occasions since their first appearance in the competition in 1999/2000. They've never gone beyond the second round.

The Addicks have put four goals past their first round opponents in each of the last three seasons.

Charlton have progressed from Round 1 in four of the last five seasons, losing only to Leyton Orient on penalties in 2012.

This will be the first meeting between the two sides in any competition.

Birmingham v Oxford

This will be the first cup meeting between Birmingham City and Oxford United

The last contest between the two came in the second tier in December 1998, in which Birmingham won 7-1.

The Blues have not lost to a fourth tier in the League Cup since September 1974, winning each of their last 17 ties against sides from that division.

Oxford are looking to progress from the first round for the third successive season. They beat Championship side Brentford 4-0 in this round last season.

Southend v Gillingham

Southend have exited the competition in Round 1 in each of the last five seasons.

The Gills have won three of their last four away from home in this competition, but did lose 2-0 to Birmingham last time out.

The two sides last met in the League Cup in 1998/99, in which Southend secured two 1-0 wins over two legs in the first round.

Gillingham's last three away games in Round 1 of the League Cup have all ended in 2-1 wins.

Wolves v Crawley

Wolves and Crawley's only previous meetings came in League One in 2013/14, in which both recorded 2-1 wins at home.

Wolves haven't kept a clean sheet in nine League Cup games.

Since their first appearance in the competition in 2011/12, Crawley have made it beyond Round 1 just twice (2012/13 and 2014/15).

Wolves have progressed from eight of their last 10 League Cup ties at home.

Leyton Orient v Fulham

This is the fourth first round League Cup meeting between the sides, with Fulham progressing in 1970 and 1971 and Orient going through in 1978.

Fulham have won only two of their last nine games against the O's in all competitions, drawing two and losing five.

Orient have lost all of their last seven home League Cup games against clubs from a higher division, their last win coming against QPR in September 2002.

Fulham have progressed from each of their last nine first round ties, stretching back to 1993.

Ipswich v Stevenage

This is the third time in the past four seasons that these sides have met in the League Cup first round, with each side sharing a win apiece.

Ipswich won last season's encounter 2-1, with a debut goal from Josh Yorwerth and another from Jay Tabb cancelling out Christophe Berra's first-half own-goal.

The Tractor Boys have won five of their last six League Cup ties on home soil (L1), although their defeat came against fourth tier opposition in August 2011 against Northampton.

Stevenage have progressed to the second round in just two of their previous six participations, although one of these was against Ipswich in August 2013.

Wycombe v Bristol City

Wycombe have won four of their last five games (L1) at Adams Park against Bristol City in all competitions.

The Robins won the only previous League Cup meeting between the two sides 1-0 in August 2004 with a goal from Leroy Lita.

The Chairboys have been eliminated in each of their last five League Cup ties.

Five of the last six teams to eliminate Bristol City from the League Cup have been sides in the fourth tier.

Walsall v Yeovil

Walsall have failed to win any of their last five home meetings with Yeovil (D2 L3), last triumphing in February 2009.

The Glovers have lost only one of their previous nine games against the Saddlers, winning four and drawing four.

Walsall have won each of their last four League Cup first round ties.

Yeovil have lost each of their last four League Cup ties against sides from a higher division, conceding at least three goals in three of those four games.

Exeter v Brentford

Exeter haven't beaten Brentford in any of their last seven meetings (D3 L4).

The Bees have lost only two of their last 26 games against the Grecians in all competitions (W17 D7).

The Grecians have kept one clean sheet in their last 23 games in the League Cup (2-0 v Yeovil in August 2011), conceding 54 goals.

Similarly, Brentford haven't kept a single clean sheet in any of their last 22 League Cup encounters, conceding 57 goals including 16 in the last four games alone.

QPR v Swindon

The Hoops have won five of their last six home games against Swindon in all competitions (L1), although that defeat came in the League Cup in August 2013.

Indeed, that 2-0 win for Swindon in August 2013 was their only clean sheet in their last 27 games against QPR at Loftus Road in all competitions. They last kept back to back clean sheets there in January 1928.

Five of the last six teams to eliminate QPR from the League Cup have been from the third tier or below.

Swindon have won four of their last five League Cup first round ties, although their defeat in this run was last season's 2-1 loss to Exeter.

Barnet v Millwall

This is the second consecutive season these two sides have met in the first round of the League Cup, with Barnet winning 2-1 last season in extra-time thanks to goals from John Akinde and Andy Yiadom.

Millwall have lost both previous games against Barnet - their last away trip was to Underhill in the Football League Trophy in August 2009, losing 2-0.

This is Barnet's first home League Cup tie since August 2009, when they lost 2-0 to Watford. Their last six ties have all been away from home (W2 L4).

The Lions' last four away League Cup trips to sides from a lower division have resulted in victory.

Reading v Plymouth

Reading have lost only one of their last seven home games against Plymouth in all competitions (W4 D2).

Plymouth's last clean sheet against Reading was in February 2005 - they have failed to stop the Royals scoring in each of their last six against them.

The Royals have won eight of their last nine League Cup first round games, with their only failure coming in August 2011 against Charlton.

Plymouth haven't won an away League Cup game since October 1990, when they won 2-0 at Wimbledon. In 22 games since, they've drawn four and lost 18.

 

Newport v MK Dons

This will be the first ever meeting between the two sides.

MK Dons eliminated Welsh opposition in last season's League Cup, winning 2-1 against Cardiff in the second round.

The Exiles haven't kept a League Cup clean sheet in any of their last 10 games, conceding 27 goals since a 1-0 win over Exeter in September 1986.

The Dons have progressed from 10 of their 12 first round League Cup ties, including each of their last six since a 4-1 defeat to Swindon in August 2009.
