Lineker Thrashes Humphrey In Pundit Popularity Poll
BT's plans for its new free football service have taken a knock today with a poll of sports fans revealing that star presenter Jake Humphrey is seriously lacking in popularity.
What's worse is that the survey, conducted by Britain's biggest bookmaker William Hill, shows that BBC's Match of the Day host, Gary Lineker, criticised by Humphrey yesterday for not being ‘current' enough to broadcast on football, is six times more popular than his new BT rival.
William Hill commissioned a survey following the public spat on Twitter between the two anchormen to discover who really is Britain's favourite sports presenter.
In total 1062 votes acknowledged Gary Lineker as by far the most popular, followed by Clare Balding, Humphrey's colleague on the new BT service, with BBC's Gabby Logan third and Sky Sport's Jeff Stelling in fourth place.
William Hill's own pundit Robbie Savage, a commentator for BBC 5Live was fifth, ITV Sport's Adrian Chiles in sixth with Humphrey in seventh.
"We knew Gary was popular but have been stunned by how far ahead of Jake he is. It is also good news for the girls with a fantastic showing from both Clare Balding & Gabby Logan," said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.
Poll Resullts (Conducted by Toluna):
292 Gary Lineker
207 Clare Balding
160 Gabby Logan
90 Jeff Stelling
68 Robbie Savage
50 Jake Humphrey
