UEFA Champions League: Best Of The Rest on Tuesday

—-

@Footy_Tipster gives his best predictions ahead of this round of fixtures in the UEFA Champions League..

The UEFA Champions League returns this week with some of Europe’s biggest clubs looking to put themselves on their way to Budapest for the final in May.

Tuesday night will provide four games in the UEFA Champions League, as eight teams battle it out for a first-leg advantage in this play-off stage of the prestigious competition.

Juventus make the trip to Istanbul to face Galatasaray in what will be a hostile atmosphere at 5.45pm.

Elsewhere, Real Madrid travel to face Benfica looking for revenge, Borussia Dortmund will welcome Italian side Atalanta, whilst Monaco and PSG battle it out in an all-French encounter.

Now, let’s take a closer look at some Champions League odds and betting angles for Tuesday’s fixtures:

Galatasaray v Juventus – Tuesday, 5.45pm

Punters can bet on Galatasaray v Juventus with William Hill

  • This is the sixth time that these two sides have met in the UEFA Champions League but the first since 2013, Galatasaray have won two of those six meetings and lost just one (D3) and with four wins in a row across all competitions in recent weeks, it’ll stand them in good stead.
  • This is the first time that Galatasaray have made it past the UCL league/group phase since the 2013/2014 campaign, the Lions have lost just one of their four UCL games so far on home soil, whilst they’ve only lost three of their last seventeen UEFA matches against Italian teams and have not lost against such opposition in Turkey since 1963, therefore 23/10 for a home victory in this one could be value.
  • From their eight UEFA Champions League outings so far this season, only twenty goals were scored in Galatasaray games, which is the second-lowest in the competition, although five of the six meetings between the pair have produced at least two goals.
    ——————————–
  • Juventus head to Istanbul looking to go a step further than last season having been eliminated at this stage by PSV but confidence could be low in camp given they’ve not won any of their last three games in all competitions, including Saturday’s controversial game away at Inter.
  • Juventus have lost only two of their ten previous UEFA matches against Turkish opposition (W5 D3) but both defeats were inflicted by Galatasaray, i think we could see a cautious approach from the Old Lady and a scoredraw at 17/5 is not to be sniffed at.
  • The Italian side have not lost the first leg in any of their last six UEFA competition two-legged ties, whilst they’ve seen five of their last six UCL games produce under three goals, i’m going to back the draw in Istanbul.

Prediction: Draw (23/10), Galatasaray 1-1 Juventus (5/1).

Borussia Dortmund v Atalanta – Tuesday, 8pm

Punters can bet on Borussia Dortmund v Atalanta with William Hill

  • Borussia Dortmund return to Signal Iduna Park having thrashed Mainz 4-0 here on Friday night in the Bundesliga, a win that extended their run to just two defeats in their last thirteen games, albeit those two defeats occurred in this competition.
  • Borussia Dortmund and Atalanta have met twice before in major European action, with the German side winning 4-3 on aggregate during a UEFA Europa League tie, Dortmund have only ever lost three straight UCL games once so 21/20 for a home win here could be bet of the night.
  • Victory would secure Dortmund’s 100th win in this competition, they have won the home leg in six of their last eight two-legged ties in the Champions League, Niko Kovac will be looking for an lead to take over to Bergamo.
    ——————————–
  • Atalanta travel to Germany fresh off the back of three victories in all competitions including a 2-0 win away at Lazio on Saturday in Serie A, although just like their opponents they’ve also lost their last two UCL outings.
  • Raffaele Palladino will be hoping his side can continue the clubs solid form in Germany, with La Dea unbeaten in their last four UEFA away matches against German opposition (W3, D1), that could tempt a few to back the Italian side at 23/10 with William Hill.
  • However, with Atalanta losing each of their last five UEFA Champions League knockout games, i’m going to back Borussia Dortmund to get themselves an advantage in this first leg but both teams scoring wouldn’t surprise me too much.

Prediction: Borussia Dortmund To Win (21/20), Borussia Dortmund 2-1 Atalanta (7/1).
